Theme 3 – Scenarios of Environmental Change and Challenges for the Future: Mitigation, Recovery and Adaptation Nowadays, it has been recognised that economic growth is strongly affected by environmental problems. Natural and social sciences face the challenge of cooperating in order to develop integrated and interdisciplinary analyses in areas that are as crucial as: the contribution of ecosystems for human safety and well-being; the sustainability of cities; an increase in energy efficiency. Social systems have to find solutions to face the positive and negative consequences of this change. Thus, it is crucial to identify the strategies for mitigation, recovery or adaptation that are most suitable for each problem and which should be implemented by society on a regional, national and global scale. Posters and communications should enable the presentation and discussion of strategies for mitigation, recovery or adaptation related to the following themes: the emergence of new environmental and energy technologies; the restoration of degraded ecosystems; international agreements and treaties; carbon sequestration; soil conservation practices; the integrated management of water resources; the integrated management of coastal areas; the development of systems to observe and monitor the environment; pollution control; the classification of areas to preserve nature and biodiversity; waste management; the use of information and communications technologies; an increase in energy efficiency, amongst others. |
